Endoscopic vessel harvesting
Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting or EVH is a procedure used to obtain a healthy blood vessel that can be used during coronary bypass surgery to bypass the blockage in the heart. The important benefits of EVH for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) have been proven in a number of clinical studies. The advantages include: significantly less risk of infection and wound complications, less postoperative pain and swelling, faster recovery with minimal scarring and greater patient satisfaction in comparison to open procedures. The EVH option is minimally invasive and uses special instruments to view and remove the blood vessel and usually only requires one small incision about one inch long. The EVH procedure is performed immediately before heart surgery.
